Academic Advising Report (AAR)

Who is this for?

Harvard College Faculty, Staff, and Advisors and select Harvard Griffin GSAS Departments

What is the AAR?

The Academic Advising Report or AAR, is a tool that aggregates all the of Harvard College requirements in one place, to facilitate transparency in advising, course selection, and to report on student progress towards degree. Data from the AAR is also used to populate the What If? Report and the Search by My Requirements Tool.

You can use the AAR to:

  • Verify degrees: In addition to academic advising, the AAR can be used to support degree verification, also known as a degree audit. The AAR will display all Harvard College requirements with a status of satisfied, not satisfied, or waived.
  • Facilitate advising conversations: Students and advisors may view the AAR web version and print/download the AAR pdf to bring to advisory meetings.
  • Generate my.Harvard WorkCenter reports: To view all concentrators' requirements, the HCOL Concentration and the House/Yard WorkCenters offer reports and audits to track all students within the concentration or housing affiliation. Harvard Griffin GSAS departments that have gone live with the AAR can also access WorkCenter reports in my.Harvard. See the Resources for AAR Coordinators on the FAS Registrar's Office SharePoint for additional information.
    • For Harvard Griffin GSAS departments: Graduate programs that have gone live with the AAR have access to the AAR Dashboard and WorkCenter reports. Please see the list of live programs below for more information.

What If? Report

The What If? Report allows you to visualize how potential coursework will help a student satisfy degree requirements based on a concentration. This tool is particularly helpful for first-year Harvard College students who are exploring concentrations or for students who are thinking about changing their concentration. To learn how to use the What If? Report, visit the my.Harvard Knowledge Base.

Search by My Requirements (SBR)

Find courses based on the Harvard College academic requirements that are currently not satisfied. The SBR searches for courses that meet:

  • Unsatisfied Harvard College requirements
  • General Education and Divisional Distribution requirements
  • Requirements for select concentrations as outlined below (more concentrations will be live in the SBR in Fall 2022). To learn how to use the SBR, visit the my.Harvard Knowledge Base.
