In-Person Registration Support
The FAS Registrar's Office will offer in-person registration support on April 17 from 12:00–2:00pm at the Smith Campus Center 1st floor and the Science Center. You may also visit our office on the 4th floor of the Smith Campus Center between 10:00am—4:00pm with questions about Fall 2024 Registration and to troubleshoot enrollment issues.

If you plan to be a Traveling Scholar, study at another Harvard school, or take a leave of absence, submit a Non-Residential (NORA) application for Academic Year 2024–25. November degree candidates should apply to graduate now. Non-resident students and November degree candidates are not required to register for courses by April 17.

Complete the following steps before the registration deadline:
Clear barriers to enrollment and review your enrolled courses
Clear any holds on your account
There are a variety of holds that may be placed on your account during registration.
-
You must clear these holds by April 17. You will be able to take action on and review any holds from my.harvard Student Home.
-
You can request instructor permission for limited enrollment courses even if you have a hold, but your holds must be lifted before you can register.
Validate your Crimson Cart
You will need to validate your Crimson Cart to check for the most current barriers to e nrollment, such as time conflicts, holds, or prerequisites. Please note that the Crimson Cart does not automatically refresh, and you will need to re-validate your cart each time you check for enrollment barriers.
Consider your options for cross registration
If you plan to cross register at another Harvard school or MIT, you will need to register for courses during FAS registration now, and later when other schools open cross registration.
-
Cross registration for the Harvard Divinity School is open through April 17.
-
Please do not register for courses you don’t intend to take – Harvard Griffin GSAS students will not be penalized for not completing full-time registration during April. Late enrollment fees will be applied when fall term begins for those who are not enrolled.
If applicable, enroll in timed discussion sections and labs
If you are taking a course with a discussion section or lab, register for a timed section/lab, or submit day and time preferences by April 17, depending on the course.
Remember that you can make any changes to your schedule when add/drop opens August 19, including changes to sections, and adding cross registration courses.
If applicable, enroll in limited enrollment courses
-
If you submit a petition to enroll in a limited enrollment course, and your petition is approved, enroll in the course by April 17.
-
Important: Instructors can cancel approved petitions. If you do not accept your seat by a course’s set deadline, your seat may be reallocated to another student.
-
If you no longer want to enroll in the course, no further action is needed.

Resolving closed class messages
If you receive a closed class message when you try to enroll in an open class, remove it from your Crimson Cart and re-add it with a different open section. Your instructor's permission will remain even if you switch to a different section time. If the class has closed, you will need to wait until add/drop opens on August 19 or check back to see if another student drops the class, and then you can try to enroll into the open class before registration ends.
