## Who is this for?

Harvard College students taking courses through the MIT ROTC program (MIT course numbers starting with AS, MS, or NS).

## How to enroll in MIT ROTC courses

Your MIT ROTC **unit staff** will enroll you in ROTC courses **internally** at MIT.

- No further action is needed on your part.
- You will not be able to register for your MIT ROTC classes in my.Harvard.
- MIT ROTC courses will not be visible in your my.Harvard course enrollment record.
- Note that MIT 15.305 is not an ROTC course. MIT 15.305 is a regular (non-ROTC) MIT course that may fulfill certain ROTC requirements. Harvard College ROTC students who wish to enroll in MIT 15.305 must follow the [**cross-registration procedures and timeline for taking courses at MIT**](https://registrar.fas.harvard.edu/cross-registration-fas). Because MIT 15.305 is not an ROTC course, the 4 Harvard credits awarded upon satisfactory completion of MIT 15.305 are not subject to the 8-credit cap on MIT ROTC coursework described in the "Credits" section below.

## Credits

Harvard College students may earn **up to eight Harvard credits** (equivalent to two Harvard 4-credit courses) towards their Harvard degree for their MIT ROTC coursework. Courses will count toward Harvard's overall credit requirement but will not factor into a student's GPA (unless it is a failing grade) or satisfy any concentration requirements.

**To** **be eligible** for any Harvard credit:

- The MIT ROTC course must be in Naval Science (NS), Military Science (MS), or Aerospace Studies (AS).
- The MIT ROTC course must earn at least six MIT units (equivalent to two Harvard credits minimum).
- You must be officially enrolled in one of the three MIT ROTC programs during the semester you take the course, and during the semester you petition for course credit.

**To** **officially receive** up to 8 Harvard credits for successfully completed MIT ROTC coursework:

- ROTC seniors who have incurred a binding post-graduation military service obligation must complete and submit the [**Credit Petition for MIT ROTC Coursework**](https://registrar.fas.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum1531/files/2025-09/rotc_petition.pdf)**.**
- When completing this petition, students should consult the [**MIT ROTC Credit Conversion Chart** ](/resource/mit-rotc-credit-conversion-chart2sep2025)to see the number of Harvard credits awarded for each MIT ROTC course.
- Do not include MIT 15.305 on the "Credit Petition for MIT ROTC Coursework" because retroactive credit cannot be awarded for MIT 15.305.

## Policies

The [**Cross-Registration section of the Harvard College Handbook for Students**](https://prod-collegestudenthandbook.drupalsites.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum5551/files/2025-05/harvard_college_student_handbook_2025-2026_-_05.19.2025.pdf#page=25) governs cross-registration and credit for MIT ROTC courses. The Handbook will govern if any conflict exists between the information on this page and the Handbook.

## Auditing

Harvard College students are not permitted to audit MIT ROTC courses.
