When will my grading basis change request be approved?

I'm being charged a late check-in and registration fee is there a process to get fees waived?

The eligibility requirements for a late fee waiver are either due to a student’s serious illness including hospitalization, a death in the student’s immediate family, or if the university is responsible for the difficulty. Students requesting a fee waiver must submit a signed Petition for Waiver of Late Fees form.

What happens if I don't register for a course by the registration deadline?

If you are adding a course after the Spring 2022 Registration deadline of Thursday, January 20, all courses will require instructor permission.

Course Registration

May I enroll in two courses that meet at the same time or overlapping times (simultaneous enrollment)?

Harvard College students may not enroll in courses that meet at the same time or at overlapping times, except in two cases:

  1. When one of the two courses has been granted a waiver from the Administrative Board petition process by a subcommittee of the Standing Committee on Undergraduate Educational Policy (EPC).
  2. When you have received permission from the heads of both courses and approval from the Administrative Board to enroll in the two courses simultaneously.

Grading Basis Change Requests

What are my options to change a grading basis if I miss the Fifth Monday deadline?

If you haven't submitted a request by February 22, 2022, please talk with your Resident Dean about petitioning the Administrative Board.

Pending requests: As long as you submitted your request by the deadline, it is ok if it is approved after the deadline. Faculty, advisers, and resident deans will be provided time beyond the deadline to respond to their pending requests.

I submitted a petition for a change of grading basis but I’ve changed my mind. What do I do?

If the petition is still in pending status, you may cancel your petition in the Document Center page in my.harvard by clicking "View prior submissions."

Once the petition is approved, you cannot submit another petition to reverse the decision. Please contact FAS Registrar directly at enrollment@fas.harvard.edu for assistance. Please note that the deadline to request a grading basis change is the Fifth Monday.

Cross Registration

I haven't enrolled in 16 credits because I am waiting to cross register at another school. Should I register for a filler course?

To avoid being charged a late registration fee, please make sure that you are enrolled in at least 8 credits by the deadline if you are awaiting approval for some of your courses. If you are registered for fewer than 8 credits you will be charged $40 per week and risk being put on an involuntary Leave of Absence.

Please do not register for a filler course at FAS if you are waiting to cross-register – it is important for the Registrar's Office to have an accurate sense of the enrollment for each course so we can finalize classroom assignments.

I am cross-registered at MIT but want to drop my course. What do I need to do to drop it?

If you are cross-registered at MIT, please make sure to drop the course in both my.harvard and contact records@mit.edu to drop the course in WebSIS at MIT – you will not be able to drop courses directly from WebSIS. Once you receive instructor permission from the MIT instructor, you are automatically enrolled for the course - there is no course preview period at MIT. Please keep in mind that students must follow whichever school's add/drop deadline is earlier. Read more about I am cross-registered at MIT but want to drop my course. What do I need to do to drop it?

What is the cross registration deadline to add/drop?

For students who are cross-registering into courses from two different schools, the student must follow whichever school's deadline is earlier. For example: If Harvard's add/drop deadline is earlier than MIT's, you will need to follow Harvard's deadline.

I’m an MIT student. How do I get access to a course’s materials once I have cross-registered for it?

To get information about a course you have cross-registered for, you will need to contact the Registrar’s Office associated with the school. You may also want to review the course listings or reach out to the course faculty member directly.

Log into my.harvard and make sure you have completed enrollment (see step 8 of the How to Cross Register in my.Harvard). Once you’ve completed enrollment please ...
