Frequently Asked Questions

I took a cross-registered course in a prior term and would like for it to count towards my concentration credit. Will this count towards my GPA?

The Registrar's office will process Concentration Credit Petition for Cross-Registered courses forms until June 30, 2024 while the current policy is still active (your cross-registered course will count towards your GPA). After July 1, 2024, the new policy will be in effect and we will no longer process these forms. No previously cross-registered course will count towards GPA.

I've received instructor permission for a course, but when I attempt to enroll, I receive an error message stating that the class is full even though the class hasn't reached its capacity.

You are receiving an error message because you have a closed lab/discussion section in your cart. To enroll in the course, delete the course from your cart, your instructor's permission still remains valid. Re-add the course to your cart and choose an open lab/discussion section to complete the enrollment process.

When does cross registration open for non-FAS schools and MIT?

If you plan to cross register at another school, the registration period for FAS and the host college needs to be open. Cross registration for the Harvard Divinity School is typically around the same time as FAS registration, so you may cross register for HDS courses during that time.  Most other Harvard schools and MIT will open cross registration for FAS students sometime near the start of term. Please consult individual school calendars for details.

When can I submit a petition for a 6th course?

Petition for max units/credits (aka 6th course approvals) for HCOL will open April 3rd when Fall registration begins. You will have access to the form after you are enrolled in courses adding up to 20 credits in a term (16 for first-year first-term students). Please refer to this knowledge article for submission instructions.
