##  Communications about your diploma 

You will receive the following communications from the FAS Registrar's Office prior to Commencement asking you to:

- **Apply to graduate** – you must apply by the deadline for your expected graduation term
- **Verify your diploma information** – We will contact you approximately 6 weeks before your expected graduation date to **confirm your** **diploma name and degree information**.

Please note that we do not send communications regarding the [**Commencement Ceremony**](https://registrar.fas.harvard.edu/commencement#commencement)**.**



 

##  Receive your diploma 

 

##  Step 1: Add a diploma name in my.harvard

- Verify and update your diploma name in [**my.harvard**](https://portal.my.harvard.edu/)**.**
- **Middle names:** Your middle name will not display under the my.harvard personal information tab, but you can update it using the guide linked above. If you add a middle name in the Diploma Name type, your middle name will appear on your diploma.
- **Important:** For students graduating in **May 2026**, you will be receiving a communication in **March** confirming the deadline to make changes to your diploma name. We cannot make changes to your diploma name once the deadline passes.



 

##  Step 2: Pick up your diploma 

- You must [**make an appointment to pick up your diploma**](https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/FASRegistrarsOfficeDiplomaPickUp@HU.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/).
- You can pick up your diploma directly from the Registrar's Office on the fourth floor of the Smith Campus Center.
- May degree candidates should expect to receive their diplomas at the Harvard Commencement ceremony.
- **May 2026** degree candidates who do not receive their diploma at Commencement can pick up diplomas starting **Monday, June 1, 2026**.

##  Step 2: Mail your diploma 

- If you are unable to pick up your diploma, you can request to have your diploma sent to you.
- Visit the FAS Registrar's Office [**University Marketplace**](https://secure.touchnet.net/C20832_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=107&SINGLESTORE=true) page to submit your request.
- Diplomas are shipped domestically using 2-day service. Diplomas are shipped internationally using international priority service. Diplomas are shipped as soon as possible, but it may not be on the date you submit your request.
- NOTE: If you are requesting the shipment of two diplomas (a concurrent Master's with your Bachelor's **or** a Master's in passing with your Ph.D.), only one shipment request is required.
- Once your diploma is shipped, you will receive a message with your tracking number.



 

##  Step 3: Obtain a Certified Electronic Diploma (CeDiploma®) 

- Harvard University now offers Certified Electronic Diplomas and Certificates (CeDiploma® and CeCertificate®) starting with November 2020 graduates and going forward.
- You will receive a [**Certified Electronic Diplomas (CeDiploma®)**](/degree-enrollment-verification#ced) within two weeks of your [**degree conferral date**](/apply-graduate#when).
- Please note that the electronic diploma will be sent from the following email address: <info@paradigm-corp.com>.



 

##  How to request a replacement diploma 

- If your Harvard College, Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences or Radcliffe diploma is lost, stolen, damaged, or you’ve had a name change, you can contact [**replacement@fas.harvard.edu**](mailto:replacement@fas.harvard.edu) to request a replacement.  
    NOTE: We cannot replace diplomas conferred by other schools. You will need to contact that school's Registrar's Office. You can [access list of Harvard Registrars here](https://harvard.service-now.com/ithelp?id=kb_article&sys_id=d6017299db550f80a752f1a51d961941).
- Attach a notarized cover letter explaining the reason for the replacement request. Follow the additional instructions based on your diploma type as indicated below.
- A replacement diploma costs $150.00, and the process may take four to six weeks from the time your order is received.
- Your replacement diploma will bear a statement in the lower margin by the Secretary to the Corporation certifying that the diploma is, in substance, a copy of the original.
- The names of the officials in office at the time your original diploma was printed may appear on the diploma without their signatures.
- **We do not issue replacement diplomas to family members of alumni.**



 

##  Lost or stolen 

Provide proof such as insurance claim or notarized statement with facts.



 

##  Damaged 

- **Destroyed or significantly damaged:** Initially, images of the damage can be sent to <replacement@fas.harvard.edu>. You will receive next steps in reply to your message.
- If necessary, you may need to return the original diploma with your request for a replacement diploma.  
    Once you have sent the damaged diploma, provide the tracking information to us so we can proceed with your request.
- **Fire or any other catastrophic event:** Submit a police or insurance report.



 

##  Name change 

- You will need to update your legal name on record. Please, complete the [Biographical Information Update Form](https://registrar.fas.harvard.edu/sites/g/files/omnuum1531/files/2026-05/Bio%20Update%20v2026.2.pdf), and return it with supporting documentation to <replacement@fas.harvard.edu>
- You must return the original diploma with your request for replacement diploma.



 

##  How to request proof of graduation 

Contact [**registrar@fas.harvard.edu**](mailto:registrar@fas.harvard.edu) to request an official letter certifying your degree after [**degree conferral**](/apply-graduate#when) takes place. If you need to verify a degree, see [**Degree/Enrollment verification**](/degree-enrollment-verification)**.**

Due to high volume, please, allow **5-7 business days** for a response. Our Information and Records Management Team reviews each request in turn. If you have already submitted your request, please, do not initiate a new request.
