Placement exams, while primarily directed at first-year students, are open to all students. The Expository Writing, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Spanish, French, Italian, and German placement exams will all be administered on-line. All other placement exams will be given on campus during Opening Days. Placement exam information for all students may be found on the Placement Exams website. Placement scores and course recommendations are available via my.harvard.edu.
Advanced Placement (AP) Scores
In order for AP scores to be included in the official student record, an official score report must be sent to Harvard from the College Board. If you need to request that your scores be reported to Harvard, you will need to contact the College Board and have your scores sent to Harvard (code 3434). If you have invalid or missing scores in your Placement and Scores Report, please email email@example.com.
Advanced Placement (AP) exam scores may be used to 1) aid in course placement recommendations, 2) fulfill the language requirement (Student Handbook, p. 13), or 3) establish eligibility for Advanced Standing* (Student Handbook, p. 17).
*Please note that students entering the College as first-year students in the fall of 2020 (Class of 2024), and all subsequent classes, will not be eligible to receive Harvard College degree credit for pre-matriculation credentials earned in secondary school. This includes credit for AP examinations, the International Baccalaureate diploma, and other international credentials. For details about Advanced Standing, the fourth year master’s degree program, or the concurrent master’s program, please visit the website for the Office of Undergraduate Education.
